This is my second attempt in guitar and first one failed due to the lack of consistency and I don’t want to. Could you please suggest a basic 10-20min daily guitar play routine for a beginner to keep me going. The more you focus on this stuff, whether it's on or away from the instrument, the faster it will get absorbed. Hi all, I am slowly learning a guitar, chords and etc, but as a working person I don’t always have time for longer sessions. Picture the fretboard, the shapes, the note names, etc. Also, use visualization practice when you're away from the instrument. You, your guitar, sheet music, and a pencil. Cater your practice session to what you will be practicing. If I am making a recording at least 10 -12.' That being said. When you're doing all this stuff slowly and concentrate on it, your mind will also be learning what it sounds like and absorbing all the sounds so that's a huge benefit too. If I am going on tour I will practice 8 - 10 hours a day. Just keep in mind that you're only going to improve at things you do every day, so stick with the same sequences and stuff for awhile. Split it into different note subdivisions with a metronome (8th notes, triplets, etc). To mix it up use scale sequences, or practice it over a single chord or backing track. You'll start to see where these shapes overlap in the scale and where the chords are made up, it helps seperate the scale and chord tones in your mind so you're not going to get stuck in the "scale box." Each day take one of these categories and practice all the shapes really slowly. (Make sure to use all your fingers like 1-2-4-shift-1-2-4-shift-1-3-4 up a string, notes should be clean, repeating a little section for a long time helps a lot)Īlongside this, print out arpeggio patterns for major, minor, major 7, minor 7, dominant 7, diminished, and augmented chords. Start off in one key (G) until you have pattern and all the notes memorized, once that's down it's a lot easier to expand to practicing in all keys around the circle of fifths. Do it really slow and think of the note names in your head as you do it. Get a print out of the major scale all over the neck and practice it up and down a single string and across the strings. The idea is you put any/all things you want to practice in a given week into the left-most column. Write it down on paper or a printout of the fretboard. First watch some videos on the major scale and get an understanding of what it is, what the whole step-half step pattern means, and the sequence of chords in the major scale.
